“Remember Paper?”

is the title of Studio Howard’s new permanent sculptures at Belmont Library, and a playful question posed to current and future generations of teens visiting the library's newly renovated teen wing.

Working with artist and PGF founder Britt Howard, our team built the soft sculptures from layers of fabric, scaled up and manipulated to look like sheets of ruled paper torn straight from a spiral notebook, then sculpted over internal armatures into familiar classroom creations like an oversized paper airplane, cootie catcher, and a crumpled sheet of doodles.

The installation celebrates the role of libraries as vital public resources and containers for both paper ephemera and digital assets, as well as spaces that acknowledge the importance of teenage learning, connection, and self-expression by creating space for this important yet fleeting time in life.
