Networking 101 with Britt

For the Emerging Leaders Summer Series, Britt talks candidly about how to network in a genuine and effective way.

Key takeaways:

  • Being yourself; be genuine and real in networking

    • Take notes, pay attention to details, and follow up (personalize it!) to create connection with those you meet

    • Being professional doesn’t mean holding back or being fake/posturing. Be your authentic self

    • Balance asserting yourself and offering your opinion + space for listening

  • Email tips when reaching out & informational interview advice

    • Be clear & concise - who are you, and what is the ask? Make it easy for them to say yes

    • Invite to share experiences vs. ask to pick their brain

    • Reach out on social media (mindfully)

  • Imposter syndrome vs. “fake it til you make it”

    • Remember we all started somewhere, everyone has been on the journey, and you matter. Be bold, confident, and network with purpose

    • Reach out to people who match with you, don’t waste their time, and end with a request for pointers and connects

    • Be personable and be present. Be you!
